Clive Palmer jumps on Dorothy Dixer on Q&A to slam AEC

CLIVE Palmer has been accused of doing a Dorothy Dixer when one of his own candidates posed a question to him on the ABC's QandA program.

Mr Palmer used the show to criticise the Australian Electoral Commission for the vote count in his seat of Fairfax.

But it was the Palmer United Party leader who was put under the spotlight on social media when he took a question from Sydney candidate Tim Kelly without disclosing the relationship.

"Clive made a point earlier, why are we in 2013 still using pencils and in America they at least have a computer system and other countries," Mr Kelly asked.

"What is the go with the pencil and paper?"

Mr Palmer, who has extensively criticised the AEC for its failure to embrace technology, quickly jumped on the question.

"Will #qanda disclose the questioner about pencils/pens is Tim Kelly the Palmer candidate for Sydney ? Just asking," freelance journalist Andrew Jaffrey posted on Twitter.

Other Social media users also expressed their concern.

"Hey, @QandA, the man who asked Palmer about using pens while voting was his candidate for Sydney. Disclosure? http://t.co/3KZIDveNfM #qanda" Twitter user Tim Christodoulou wrote.

Mr Kelly later said Mr Palmer did not know he was in the audience - and he pointed out the question had been addressed to the whole panel - not just Mr Palmer.
