Chinese Grand Prix practice called off for bizarre reason

AFTER major delays during opening Formula 1 practice, the second session failed to start entirely at the Chinese Grand Prix.

A medical helicopter was once again grounded at the circuit with weather conditions preventing it from landing at the designated hospital in downtown Shanghai.

The start of the session was repeatedly delayed as race officials waited on updates every 10 minutes from Shanghai's airport, finally calling the session off just a few minutes before it was scheduled to end.

With only a handful of laps completed during opening practice, all drivers and teams will effectively head into Saturday's final practice and qualifying blind on set-up data, while they also missed out on vital running time to learn the wear rates for Pirelli's new wider tyres ahead of Sunday's race.

But with similar conditions forecast for Saturday, the fear is that those sessions may similarly be afflicted.
