China lifts import ban on Australian beef

CATTLE farmers can breathe a sigh of relief after China lifted an import ban on Australian beef which lasted several months.

China's quarantine agency imposed the ban in late July after discovering labels on some boxes of exported beef didn't match packet labels inside.

"The facilities, which account for around 30 per cent of Australia's beef exports to China, can now resume exporting,” Trade minister Steve Ciobo said.

"This positive outcome reflects the high level of cooperation between Australian and Chinese authorities, and our red meat industry.

"Australia has an excellent relationship with China, our largest trading partner. The goodwill generated by the success of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) assisted in resolving this matter quickly.”

Australia's beef exports to China were worth $670 million in 2016
