Byron Bay speed team chasing a ‘ton’
A TRIP to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah in 2012 has inspired Byron father-and-son team AAA Racing to attempt to break the 100cc land speed pursuit record.
Brothers Jean-Paul and Mitchell Affleck and their father Warren were inspired by their trip to Bonneville, a mecca for hot- rodders and drag-racers.
"It's still pretty much unregulated and the motto there is that you can run what you brung," said Jean-Paul.
"They say that when you visit Bonneville you catch salt fever, and I think we caught it because when we got back here in 2012 we decided to go for this record."
Their motorcycle started out as a small Honda CRF100F that has since been modified with the addition of a supercharger and now runs on methanol and 10% nitro.
AAA Racing will compete at Lake Gairdner Speed Week in March 2014 in South Australia.
They will be competing in the 100cc classes. The current record stands around 89 miles per hour and they will be aiming to hit 100mph.
