'Castrate you all': Vile letters target Coast same-sex couple
A SAME-SEX couple on the Sunshine Coast has been targeted with a series of handwritten notes saying "no to gays" in the wake of the 'Yes' vote.
Kirk Muddle and his partner Andrew, who have lived in Maroochydore for 11 years, were sent the letters on A4 sheets of paper calling for gay men to have their genitals removed and declaring "you do realise there are children and elderly in this area".
"How dare you disrupt the whole neighbourhood," one note read.
"No respect. No is no. No is no. No to gays."
Kirk posted the notes on Facebook and encouraged people to share, declaring "the more people that know, the more they'll see it won't be over".
"I'm horrified ... and sad," he said.
"This is not to garish sympathy. This is just to remind everyone the fight's not over, and it probably never will be.
"We don't want anything special. We don't want anything "perverted", we just want the same rights as others and to be treated as humans."
There was widespread support for the couple of Facebook, with Kirk's post receiving more than 1400 likes and 800 shares.
Teej Searle labelled the notes as "appalling".
"Surely it's illegal, it's harassment?" he asked.
"We're just down the road in Brisbane and all I can do is tell you is that I believe in equality. You have my love and support."
Nancy Cisneros Lanza called on the couple to shame those responsible for the letters.
"Make copies; nail them to telephone poles in the neighbourhood offering a small reward for anyone who has the balls to tell you who wrote them. Let everyone in the area read them. Embarrass the crap out of these idiots," she said.
