Car crashes into tree while driver flees scene
A DRIVER of car displaying a P plate crashed over a five metre high embankment right into a tree and left the scene.
Tweed District Rescue Squad was sent to the crash at Byrrill Creek Rd, Uki about 6.50pm.
"It was a gravel section of road and the driver's lost control coming round the bend," member Jamie Stoddart said.
"It's dropped 5m down an embankment and crashed into a tree."
Tweed-Byron Local Area Command Inspector Bobbie Cullen said the Toyota Hilux was found abandoned.
"The driver's decanted on foot," she said.
"The car ran into a tree."
Insp Cullen said the front end of the vehicle was badly damaged.
The white ute was displaying green 'P' plates.
NSW Ambulance, police, a NSW rural fire unit and the rescue squad were all in attendance.
