Byron Shire’s new archery club on target for success

BYRON Shire Archery Club is on target for success since founding their club at Byron Bay Sports and Recreation Centre at Ewingsdale.

The archers meet every Saturday from noon until 5pm and are also offering one-day classes for those who want to get into the sport.

Co-founder Matt Willey said archery was an ideal family sport, and also suitable for boys and girls of any age.

"Council has been very helpful in helping us set up our club out there," he said.

"I have been shooting for the last 30 years and my daughter has been shooting since she was seven years old.

"Archery is a great outdoor sport that can have players from eight years old to 80s; it's the kind of sport you can enjoy even as you are learning.

"As well as the physical discipline there are a lot of mental skills to master, such as increasing your concentration and controlling your breathing - it's almost like meditation.

Cost for one day beginners lesson is $120 which includes a barbecue lunch. For more information go to: http://www.bsac.com.au.
