“Dining out these days is so much more than just getting a good meal,” he said.
“It’s about the whole experience. The food, the service, the ambience, everything.
“You want to come away from your dining experience knowing that you and your guests had a great night and that you will return.”
Fishheads is one of 13 Byron Shire restaurants and cafes which have received nominations for the 2009 Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence (northern NSW and New England).
The annual awards recognise excellence in food, service and acknowledge best practice in the hospitality industry.
Mr Mamone said the awards were a great way of recognising and showcasing local restaurants and cafes.
He said the awards also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of staff.
“The staff really are the heroes, and these awards go a long way to recognising their talent,” Mr Mamone said.
“Byron Shire has some of the best restaurants in the world, so why shouldn’t we show them off.”
The 13 restaurants and cafes which have received nominations include:
Asian restaurant: Kinoko Byron Bay; Muoi’s Feast Byron Bay; Orient Express Byron Bay and O-Sushi Byron Bay.
Breakfast restaurant: Utopia Cafe, Bangalow.
BYO restaurant: Figtree Restaurant, Ewingsdale.
Cafe – upper coast: Byron Beach Cafe, Byron Bay.
Contemporary Australian restaurant – upper North Coast: Why Not, Byron Bay.
Indian/sub-continent restaurant: Tandoor Mahal, Bangalow; Tandoor Palace, Byron Bay.
New restaurant: The Petit Snail, Byron Bay.
Seafood restaurant: Fishheads Byron Bay; Fishmongers Byron Bay.
Tourism restaurant: Byron Beach Cafe, Byron Bay.
Wine list – comprehensive: Why Not, Byron Bay.
Wine list – limited: Byron Beach Cafe, Byron Bay.
Restaurant caterer: Byron Beach Cafe, Byron Bay; Figtree Restaurant, Byron Bay.
Harvest Cafe at Newrybar was also nominated for the category of wine list – comprehensive.
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner on June 27 in Coffs Harbour.
