Brewery celebrates its new batch with Festival of the Stone

FESTIVAL of the Stone is on again tomorrow, celebrating the tapping of this year's first batch of beer at the Stone and Wood brewery in Byron Bay.

The festival has become an annual event to mark the tapping of the brewery's first keg of the year, served straight from the wooden caravan named Bonnie.

The 2014 beer, to be officially released at the festival, is described as having "dark chocolate and coffee characters upfront, followed by caramelised malt sweetness, balanced by a spicy kick of hops".

Brewed with chocolate wheat, golden malted oats and Aussie hops Helga and Sylva, this is a "big bold ale", the brewer says.

All proceeds from this year's Festival of the Stone will be directed towards the Northern Rivers Community Foundation.

The family event has live music, entertainment, art stalls, haircuts by Jack the Snipper and delicious food.

The festival on Saturday 3-9pm is at 4 Boronia Place, Arts and Industry Estate, Byron Bay. Gold coin donation on entry.
