BOARDRIDERS: Cinta, India, Rosie, Lehane and Kirsty enjoyed top conditions at the final Byron Boardriders Meet last weekend at Tallow Beach.

BYRON Boardriders Club members, community and friends are invited to the Sally Miller fundraiser from 5.30pm today at The Rails Hotel in Byron Bay.

This will be a chance for the community to show our support for the Miller family who are going through some tough times.

Come along for a chance to win a brand new surf board or win a great raffle prize but most of all, help Sally and her family have a better Christmas.

Last Sunday was also the final club round of the year with the Junior members enjoying perfect small but contestable waves.

Club members were given a demonstration with the new tourniques supplied to the Club by Dr Blake Eddington who is head of the Emergency Section at Byron Central Hospital, and Tactical Medical Solutions.

Everyone was impressed with the simplicity and effectiveness that these devices offer. For those that would like to purchase one to keep in their car for when they go to the beach, you can do so by visiting their web site

They are not expensive but could save your life or the life of someone else.

So a big thank you to Blake for taking the time to come down and show us how they work.

But a big thumbs down to Byron Council and State Government for putting us in a position where we have to resort to these measures.

Only nets and drumlines will do the job, the same as Sydney, Wooloongong, Queensland, and now Ballina and Lennox.

Why should the people of Byron not deserve the best protection available?

The annual Boardriders Presentation will be held this coming Saturday from 4pm at The Bowlo where the Committee for 2017 will be elected and Trophies will be presented to all placegetters.

Meanwhile here are the results from last week's competition:

U16s- Boys 1. Touma, 2. Ned, 3. Rhys. Girls 1. Girls, 2. Rosie, 3. India.
