Byron Bay's O-Sushi wins title

THE world travels to holiday in Byron Bay – and Byron Bay is able to offer world-class cuisine in return.

But it is Australians – and locals, at that – who have voted for Byron's O-Sushi to win its latest award, according to owner Dan Regev.

His restaurant, in the Woolworths plaza, and invariably packed with happy diners, has won the ‘Australia's favourite Japanese' prize in the Lifestyle Food Channel's I Love FOOD Awards 2010.

“I believe most of the support for this came from locals,” Mr Regev said.

“It just shows the great ongoing support we get from our community, to be chosen as the favourite Japanese restaurant all over Australia.

“It's fantastic to have verification from our customers that we're doing a good job,” Mr Regev said.

O-Sushi has picked up eight awards since it opened six years ago – including the gong for the Northern NSW region's Best Sushi Bar in the Restaurant and Catering Regional Awards for Excellence in 2008.

But Mr Regev said this was the most prestigious award they had received.

The Lifestyle Food Channel said the awards rewarded Australia's favourite places to eat out as chosen by the Australian public.

The results of the vote would be used to create an online eating out guide ‘like no other because the places are tried and tested by fellow food-loving viewers', it said.

Mr Regev said he was happy to celebrate O-Sushi's success, but he was committed to maintaining its standards.

“It's important we keep working hard to deliver fresh, delicious and exciting offerings to our loyal customers,” he said.
