Byron Bay FC to celebrate its golden anniversary

FOOTBALL heroes from now and yesteryear are invited to help Byron Bay FC celebrate 50 years of football. The club is busy collecting memories to assist the commemorations.

Photographs of games, teams and memorable events are all sought, while a special Team of Distinction, featuring past great players is also being compiled.

Club president Richard Ray said the project had taken on a life of its own and captured participants' imaginations.

"If you had told me about this 12 months ago, maybe I would not have been so interested," he said.

"The more I have got into it, the more I am excited about it.

"I think these projects give people a sense of history, the value of the club and how it has evolved.

Various images from the club's past have already been collected, with several people already contributing photos and other items.

The scheme will be marked by a celebration day on Saturday, August 31.

A gala ball to mark the occasion is planned, with the announcement of the nominated team of the last half-century

"I am more excited for the people around the club who have had a chance to reconnect with the club. They are the ones who have embraced it most enthusiastically," Ray said.

"It is great to recognize the work people have put in over the years. It is important to show that what you put into a club like ours, you get back."

Anyone who can assist should email Richard at or visit
