THE Byron Bay under-12 boys' representative basketball team accomplished another clean sweep at the North Coast Shield competition in Lismore last weekend.
Team manager Kylie Robertson says the boys displayed great teamwork and have incredible shooting accuracy.
"The boys won every game in Grafton and Yamba earlier this year," Ms Robertson said.
"During the contest in Lismore, the closest margin was the game against Yamba A where the Byron boys won 40-10.
"The intensive training sessions by our coaches Matt Ogle and Nash Campbell on Tuesday and Friday afternoons have taught both the girls' and the boys' teams the essential skills to play a fast, tight game.
"The kids' skills have improved progressively week by week."
The Byron Bay under-12s girls also had an excellent showing over the weekend winning every game except one which they only lost by two points.
"The girls were very tenacious and courageous. They fought hard down to the last second of every game," Ms Robertson said.
Ms Robertson said basketball had really taken off in Byron shire since the Byron Basketball Association took up residence at the Byron Regional Sport and Cultural Complex.
"Each season we are seeing more and more teams join up for our weekly competition.
"Basketball is fabulous for fitness and a very exciting game to watch," she said.
