Byron accepts gifts of paintings from famed artists

BYRON Shire Council has formally accepted a gift of four artworks of Byron Bay by well-regarded Australian artist Judy Cassab into the care of the community.

The works; The Lighthouse Byron Bay (1999), View from lookout Byron Bay (1999), Byron Bay (2000) and Surfers Byron Bay (2000) were donated as part of the artist's life celebration.

The works were donated for display in the new Byron Bay Library building.

Cr Richardson said he was honoured to accept the artworks on behalf of council.

"The four works feature iconic Byron locations and will have a meaningful connection for many locals and visitors," he said.

"A heartfelt thank you to Judy and her family for honouring our Shire with these generous gifts. They can be assured that they shall be treasured."

Approval was also given for the establishment of the Mullumbimby Sculpture Walk.
