Bridge tenders are being sought

Byron Council is seeking tenders to build a new bridge across Possum Creek after the old timber bridge was demolished because of a structural failure.

The new concrete bridge will be two lanes wide and 22 metres long.

The old bridge was closed to all traffic – cars and pedestrians – in September 2007 and there were some hopes it could be repaired.

However, after further deterioration, the council decided to demolish it and pushed on with plans for a new one.

Tenders close on June 11 and the council is hopeful of a start to work later this year.
