Sacked board member criticises NBN roll-out

A FORMER director of NBN Co who was fired from the role by the Abbott Government has hit out at Labor's roll-out of the broadband network.

Brad Orgill was the only NBN Co board member not to resign when asked by Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull a week ago.

In an opinion piece in the Australia Financial Review, Mr Orgill has criticised aspects of the roll-out, alleging politics got in the way of the network.

He wrote he chose not to resign due to his "weariness" at politics overshadowing the roll-out, saying some parts were dysfunctional.

Despite his sacking, Mr Orgill still contended the roll-out could still have achieved its 2021 completion target.

His comments came after Mr Turnbull on Thursday confirmed former Telstra head Ziggy Switkowski as executive chairman of the now three-member NBN Co board.
