Boy’s sleepover sparks major search in Gracemere on weekend

IT WAS a sleepover at a friend's place that sparked a major search in Gracemere.

Rockhampton police issued a plea to the public for help to find an 11-year-old boy who was last seen at his Stover St residence about 7.30pm on Friday. His family and police were concerned for his safety.

About a dozen police officers and 17 SES volunteers searched through the night for clues to his whereabouts, visiting public places and the boy's known haunts.

At 10.45am on Saturday, the boy returned to his home, safe and well.

Police said that he had spent the night at a friend's place.

He had not told his parents and the adults at the house where he was staying were not aware that was the case.

When they came across reports on social media that the boy was missing, they immediately contacted police.
