Boy, 15, crushed under horse

A 15-YEAR-OLD boy was last night in a coma in hospital after a shocking fall at the Ulmarra Campdraft competition on Saturday afternoon.

The boy fell from his horse during an event and the animal then rolled on him. He was stabilised at the scene by St John Ambulance officers in attendance at the campdraft and then by Grafton Ambulance officers.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter later landed on the event ring and transferred the boy directly to Gold Coast Hospital, where yesterday he was reported to be in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care ward.

Ambulance officers who attended the accident said that it was an unfortunate incident and every precaution had been taken.

“The boy was wearing a helmet and the St John Ambulance guys did a great job until we got there,” one of the ambulance officers said. “When we arrived at the scene, the patient’s breathing had deteriorated and he was unconscious.”
