Book review: Lani's Story

BOOK: Lani's Story
AUTHOR: Lani Brennan with Hazel Flynn
PUBLISHER: HarperCollins Publishers Aust
RRP: $29.99

THIS is a very confronting chronicle about surviving domestic violence. Lani grew up in an Aboriginal community in Sydney.

She was raised in a loving family however alcoholism did impact her early life.

As a teenager she was caught up in drug and alcohol abuse which led to her becoming involved in an extremely violent relationship.

She finally realised she had to leave this man or he would end up killing her.

Lani candidly tells about her struggles with becoming sober and in finally managing to have her abuser convicted.

It takes immense courage to achieve these things and to be a spokesperson for victims of domestic violence.

Lani Brennan has that courage and stamina.
