Book review: Dante the Divine Comedy

BOOK: Dante the Divine Comedy
TRANSLATED BY: Clive James
PUBLISHER: Picador, Pan Macmillan
RRP: $32.99

THIS may not be on everyone's "to do" list but I have always vowed to read Dante The Divine Comedy.

So I thank you Clive James for allowing me to read this epic poem.

I'm no scholar so cannot comment on metre, etc.

However I do like to read for pleasure and this translation has provided that.

There are no endnotes, which could detract from your overall enjoyment, as Clive James has incorporated the obscure and puzzling references, in Dante's poetry, into his translation.

I can only applaud Mr. James for his labours and for giving me Dante in this readable format.
