Bluedogs go from underdogs to holding second spot on ladder

AFTER being promoted to FFNC's premier league at the start of the season, Bangalow's aim was simply to be competitive.

But the Bluedogs have exceeded all expectations and now have the chance to move to the top of the Football FNC men's premier division table if they can win their home clash against Lennox Head tonight.

With clever Brazilian Thiago Priori and big defender Josh McInerny returning to boost the line-up that had a 2-1 win over Goonellabah on Saturday, the Bluedogs will start favourites.

Bluedogs coach Mark Shephard said his side could send a huge statement to its rivals by claiming another win tonight.

"Getting the intensity up for midweek games can be difficult at times, but the boys certainly have plenty to play for in this one," Shephard said.

"There are sides behind us with games in hand, but it's important for us to get the points on the board when we can, and put the pressure on them".

Bangalow will look to in form midfielders Victor Pires and Joel Rudgley along with unpredictable striker Batok Ring to lead the way, but have no room for complacency.

The Sharks will be bubbling with new found confidence after racking up their first win on the weekend, downing Casino 5-4.

Former Newcastle player Chris Grogan is starting to make an impact in midfield with Blake Astley and Paul Kirkland, while striker Aaron Gray is getting back to his dangerous best.

"We had a slow start, but things are starting to come together for us now," Sharks coach Matt Kelso said.

The match kicks off at 8pm.
