Blow more than 0.1% in Victoria? Say goodbye to your car

VICTORIA is set to have some of the toughest drink-driving laws in the country in an unprecedented crackdown targeting motorists.

Drink-drivers who blow more than 0.1% will have their vehicles impounded under new penalties that come into effect on August 1.

Vehicles will be impounded even if the driver is not the registered owner of the vehicle.

Offenders will also be hit with a $627 fine, towing costs and have their licences automatically cancelled for 10 months.

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Robert Hill told The Herald Sun there was no place in the community for drink-drivers.

"Drinking and driving are two behaviours that just do not mix," he said.

"If you are going to drink then do not drive - plan ahead, catch public transport, organise a designated driver or call a taxi."
