The Block Triple Threat’s tile style wars

ONE week after securing their spot on The Block Triple Threat, Dea and Daz are making their pressence felt.

The polarising Melbourne couple breezed through main bathroom week thanks to their experience on the Glasshouse season.

Dea and Darren won by just half a point after they were docked one point from this week's challenge by Jess and Ayden.

Glossy black tiles made a big statement, which judge Neale Whitaker said oozed glamour.

"Glamour, glamour, glamour," he said.

 "It's got oomph factor."

Judge Shaynna Blaze questioned the location of power points and counter space but was otherwise impressed by the large bathroom.

"It's been a tough day with poor Daz and I'm worried about him, so walking away with a win is nice," Dea said.

Tim and Anastasia came in second, and earned praise for bouncing back from their disastrous week one bedroom renovation.

They were buoyed by a mentoring session and bedroom restyling with Block judge Darren Palmer.

"This is so much more confident," Whitaker said.

"This is a room that seems to have a sense of self about it. They seem to have their mojo back."

Josh and Charlotte delivered a fresh and minimalist bathroom, but their modern style lacked some practical elements including appropriate lighting over the mirror and toilet.

"There's nowhere to put anything and that's a big issue," Blaze said.

But it was Gold Coast parents Jess and Ayden who produced the most controversial bathroom.

They took a risk by taking away space from another bedroom to build a separate toilet.

The miscalculation was exacerbated by their use of an expensive marble tile.

"It's very overwhelming; this is not a cheap tile," Blaze said.

"This is what happens when you over do a feature, it gets watered down.

"You don't need that separate toilet. It worries me where they're throwing their money into and not saving."

Host Scott Cam also announced the jury vote will now return to the show, with an additional $5000 for grabs for whichever team's bathroom is voted the best by their peers.
