Gympie music star meets striped friend to promote Muster

THERE are not usually a lot of zebras hanging around the Gympie Music Muster site at Amamoor Creek.

But for festival director Jeff Chandler and zebra convert Caitlyn Shadbolt, the issue was black and white.

Caitlyn met her new striped friend over a shared straw of hay recently, in honour of their shared role promoting the Muster, in association with Australia Zoo.

If that sounds complicated, perhaps it is.

But it all makes sense to Mr Chandler and Ms Shadbolt; and to the people at Australia Zoo.

As Mr Chandler explained yesterday, the Muster has joined Australia Zoo's Adopt-an-Animal program, aimed at supporting animal care at the zoo and conservation around the world.

The animal they adopted is a zebra called Zambezi.

And while Ms Shadbolt, who is Muster Ambassador and Gympie Regional Youth Ambassador might be getting along famously with everyone at the zoo, the question arises: Just what has any of this got to do with music, Gympie region or the Muster?

"Don't worry," Mr Chandler said yesterday.

"The Muster is getting plenty of support in return.

"Australia Zoo has provided us with access to a billboard at Brisbane Airport

"That billboard is seen by about 70,000 carloads of people a day.

"Australia Zoo just gave us that," he said.

And that sort of promotion is what Mr Chandler has to think about as muster organisers approach the pointy end of the year.

"I hate looking up the website," he said yesterday, because it tells you how little time you have left to get it all done.

"We always worry at this time of year, because there is an overwhelming amount to do.

"But we've done it a few times now and everyone knows their jobs.

"Ticket sales are better than last year, which is very encouraging," he said.
