Big win for Bangalow
After being trounced by a full-strength Yamba outfit a week prior, Bangalow may have turned their season around with a convincing 40-7 win against the Evans Head Killer Whales at home on Saturday.
Bangalow started as well as they ever have in past premiership winning seasons, playing with great purpose and enthusiasm.
Evans fought their way back into the game mid-way through the half but Bangalow regrouped and went on with the job in the second.
The forwards laid the platform, finally showing what they are capable of, giving the backs quality ball to attack from.
The backs are still finding their feet after losing their gun fly-half to the second row but are starting to show promising signs of things to come.
Bangalow’s set piece and attacking structure were generally much-improved. Coach Simon Balcon is born again, finally seeing the light in his team and some merit in his coaching philosophies.
Try scorers were Dick Collins, Andrew Gribble, Simon Leighton and three to players player Welsh Griff who has finally worked it out. You play much better rugby concentrating on your own game.
This was an important bonus point win for the local lads, moving back into the top four. After the two upcoming byes, Bangalow take on the Kyogle Cockatoos at the nest on June 19 in the last game of the round.
The next two weeks could be vital to Bangalow’s chances this season.
Players need to show commitment to each other, turn up to training and get some extra fitness sessions in. Special thanks to the social committee and supporters for making it a great day all round.
