Big Paddle a big drawcard

Organisers are hoping for another ‘perfect’ day for next Wednesday’s Australia Day Big Paddle from Wategos Beach to Main Beach, Byron Bay.

Now in its third year, the paddle has turned into a major Byron Shire Australia Day activity, last year attracting more than 450 participants.

The paddle will have divisions for shortboards, longboards, Nippers’ paddle boards, stand-up paddle boards, racing skis and kayaks.

It will cost $10 to enter, with registrations taking place at The Beach Hotel next Tuesday from 6pm or at Wategos Beach from 8am on Australia Day.

Entry forms are also available at the website http://australiadaypaddle.com.au

All paddlers, who this year will be given wrist bands, are asked to ensure their names get ticked off when they arrive at Main Beach.

The paddle starts at 10am and will be followed by a barbecue at Main Beach.

All money raised from the paddle will be distributed to local charities.
