Big crowd tipped for Byron Bay Cup

THERE’S been an unprecedented interest in this year’s Byron Bay Cup, according to Ballina Jockey Club chairman Robert Pitt.

“Apart from keen interest from Byron Bay residents in what is their cup, we have taken bookings from large groups from the Gold Coast and Lismore,” he said.

“We have also had lots of inquiries from residents of Byron Bay and Suffolk Park about the arrangements that we have made to get people safely to and from the racecourse on the day.”

All-inclusive tickets, for gate entry and bus transport, are available from The Byron Shire News, The Byron Services Club and The Park Hotel at Suffolk Park.

Buses will depart from The Services Club and from the Park Hotel at Suffolk Park.

“Priced at only $15 per head, this is a great option for visitors to the racecourse,” Mr Pitt said.

“On behalf of the jockey club I would like to extend a warm invitation to the Byron Bay community to come to the races on Byron Bay Cup day to celebrate their cup and their town.

“There will be a fashion parade, fashions on the field competition, live music and more.”

The Park Hotel will hold a calcutta on Saturday, August 27.

Tickets will be on sale at The Park Hotel leading up to the drawing and auctioning of horses at 6pm.

Mr Pitt said he expected a lot of interest in the calcutta, particularly as early indications showed there some very good Cup entries. The Cup will be held at the Ballina Racecourse on August 28.
