Beachgoers urged to think of safety

THOUSANDS of people are expected to continue their festive celebrations on North Coast beaches during the school holidays and Surf Life Saving NSW has urged all beachgoers to be safe this summer.

Operations manager Adam Weir said swimming between the flags was still the key message.

"If you are going out in a boat or doing some rock fishing, always wear a lifejacket," he said.

"I would like to thank our volunteer lifesavers who will be patrolling throughout the holidays.

"It is a very busy time of the year on our beaches."
