Bayern Munich fires up in chase for League treble

BAYERN Munich is on track for a second treble in three years after reaching the Champions League semi-finals by thrashing Porto 6-1.

Trailing 3-1 after the first leg in Portugal, five goals in a devastating first half by Bayern, including a double to Robert Lewandowski, put the issue beyond doubt.

The result continued the great run of success for manager Pep Guardiola who has reached the last four of the competition in all of his five seasons in charge of Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

The German champions - who won the Bundesliga, the Champions League and German Cup in 2013 - lead the domestic competition by 12 points and are into the final four of the German Cup.

Barcelona is also through to the semi-finals of the Champions League after a 2-0 win at home against Paris St-Germain extended the aggregate to 5-1.

Brazilian striker Neymar scored both goals to give Barca a chance of winning its first title since 2011.
