Barty bows out after giant-killing run

CAROLINE Wozniacki has brought Queensland giant killer Ashleigh Barty back down to earth at the Cincinnati Open.

A day after the 21-year-old claimed the biggest win of her career when ousting Venus Williams, Barty was defeated 6-4 6-2 in the round of 16.

Barty's win over Williams was her first over world top-10 opposition.

Former world No.1 Wozniacki next faces the winner of the match between top seed and current world No.1 Karolina Pliskova and Italy's Camila Giorgi.

Second seed Simona Halep became the tournament's first quarter-finalist with a 6-4 6-3 win over 15th seed Anastasija Sevastova.

Svetlana Kuznetsova advanced with a 6-2 6-4 win over Carla Suarez Navarro.
