Bangalow pool dream closer

For 14 years, Bangalow has been battling to get its own swimming pool.

The dream may be now closer to reality, with the Bangalow Pool Trust announcing the release of new pool plans.

Trust president Peta Heeson said plans had changed several times over the years, but the trust now felt it had the right combination of ideas which would be right for Bangalow.

Ms Heeson said local architect Dominic Finlay-Jones had come on board in July to build on the work already done.

Mr Finlay-Jones had proposed an outdoor heated pool within a large recreational park so that the pool became integrated into the sports precinct, which was already a hub for the community.

The facility included a 25m eight-lane outdoor swimming pool, a shaded kids pool, a large multi-purpose space, a crèche and a café.

Mr Finlay-Jones has worked closely with another Bangalow local, Kane Sullivan from Lucid Metal, to produce an illustrated master plan and a photo impression of the pool.

They have built a website at bangalowpool.com.au where residents can view the plans and post their feedback.

The artist’s impression will also be on display for the next four weeks in the front window of the Bangalow Post Office.

Cr Simon Richardson said the release of the new plans was another example of Bangalow showing the way on community projects.

Ms Heeson said the planned pool facility would proceed to the detailed design stage once the community presentation phase was completed in early November.

“This will allow us to complete a detailed costing on which we can base a final project fundraising effort, and fingers crossed we will be breaking ground in 2011,” she said.
