Bands get the chance to rock at the YAC cafe

THE YAC Rock Cafe at Byron Bay is putting youth music on the map offering young bands from across Australia a chance to get some stage time.

The Rock Cafe is a combined initiative from BUDDI Community Drug Action Team, Byron Youth Service and the SAE Institute Byron Bay and happens at the Byron Youth Activities Centre every Friday night.

Since its inception the Rock Cafe has seen over 300 performances by young bands from all around Australia.

These days bigger, well- established bands offer free shows during their east coast tours.

Many of the regular local bands get the chance to play with these more established touring bands, learning stage-craft, devel- oping networks and finding out how to break into the music industry.

The next big show at the YAC Rock Cafe is on Friday, July 12 and will feature Vices, Surrender and Bodies In Barrels, currently on their Winter Break Tour of Australia.

Each week the stage is set up with a basic PA, managed by a group of SAE Institute Byron Bay sound engineering students and local high school students.

The weekly shows are open to bands of all genres and styles. YAC Rock Cafe happens every Friday night at the Byron YAC. Doors open at 6pm with bands playing from 7-10pm.
