PREMIER Mike Baird has landed in a hairy situation after a shaggy visitor hit the court on a stopover at a Southern Tablelands basketball centre.

The Queanbeyan Yowies mascot was a different kind of long-haired invader to those Mr Baird usually encounters at protests.

In fact he looked suspiciously like Chewbacca, Hans Solo's bushy mate from the Star Wars films.

The Wookie is famous for his handiness in a fight, so Mr Baird was careful to stay in his good graces - as well as those of the Monaro electorate which includes Queanbeyan.

The Coalition holds the seat at a margin of only 2%.

Mr Baird announced $60,000 to upgrade the centre before dropping an impressive overhead three-pointer - although court-side media reported it took him five goes to finally sink the shot.
