Be nice to your bartender
A LITTLE bit goes a long way when it comes to manners.
According to Dicey's bartender Ben Goring, even the simplest of gestures such as a, 'please' or a 'thank you' can make a big difference to someone who spends their day dealing with the general public.
"It makes a really big difference, it's a sign of mutual respect," he said.
"How people treat you creates the atmosphere of the place you're in."
Unfortunately, according to Ben, manners in Gladstone are slipping.
"I think manners are definitely heading in a downward spiral," he said.
"People who talk on their mobiles while they make an order - that happens all the time and I think it's disgustingly rude.
"The other day there was this guy who must have ordered about 20 drinks, and midway through his order he got a phone call. "I was left with all his drinks, which were getting warm, and when he got back he complained that the froth in his beer had dissolved."
Ben also said money doesn't buy manners.
"Some of the industry guys that come in here, they wave a $100 bill at you and expect to skip the line. Meanwhile there'll be a load of regulars waiting who always have a smile and a nice word to say - you can just imagine who I'd rather serve first."
Ben also said that good manners were a two-way street.
"It goes both ways. I appreciate good manners so I try and be polite to everyone else.
"It just makes life easier, and more pleasant."
