Baby critical after alleged assault

A 22-YEAR-OLD Flinders View man will appear in court charged with assaulting his five-month-old daughter.

The girl remains in a critical condition at the Mater Hospital's paediatric intensive care unit, with broken ribs and internal injuries.

Ipswich Child Protection and Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Williams said the girl's grandparents took her to Ipswich Hospital on Saturday and the hospital then informed police.

The girl's father was later arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm.

He will appear at Ipswich Magistrate's Court on Monday.
