Award for Byron SLSC’s Jimmy Keough

BYRON Bay Surf Lifesavers shone bright at last weekend's Far North Coast Branch Surf Life Saving Awards held at Twin Towns, Tweed Heads.

Branch Emergency Service co-ordinator, Jimmy Keough, received the president's award for outstanding performance.

Branch president Wilson Cregan paid tribute to Mr Keough who he said stood out for his contribution to surf lifesaving this year.

"We had a lot of critical incidents and Jimmy was always available and day or night, regardless of conditions he always made the right call.

"Whether it was rescuing a rock fisherman or a shark attack or responding to critical incidents such as those at Brunswick Heads, he does the same professional job."

Other winners included: Gary Timperley (coach of the year); Helen Murray (masters athlete of the year) and Ela Heiniger (female athlete of the year); with Byron Bay's under-17 women's team declared team of the year.
