World title win

Byron Bay Olympic silver medallist kayaker Nathan Baggaley has won his first surf ski world ocean title in Perth.

Baggaley had a narrow win over South African Herman Chaplupsky on Sunday.

Chalupsky held the upper hand after winning Saturday's opening leg, a 16km loop from Fremantle to Sorrento.

But Baggaley, who finished second on Saturday, knew victory in Sunday's longer leg - a 30km paddle row Rottnest Island to Hilary's marina - would give him the title.

Baggaley managed to defeat the South African by 22 seconds to steal the crown.
