Tender let for highway upgrade

Abigroup Contractors Pty Ltd has won the tender to upgrade the Pacific Highway between Brunswick Heads and Yelgun.

NSW Roads Minister, Carl Scully, said a contract was expected to be awarded in January and work would start shortly after once all the approvals had been obtained.

Mr Scully said the contract would include:

Detailed design of the project including road and bridge design, structural and drainage design, landscaping, urban design.

Construction of about 8.6 km of dual carriageway, including the duplication of the Brunswick Heads bypass, construction of the new balanced cantilever bridges across the Brunswick River, all road works and environmental protection measures.

Maintenance for 20 years.

Environmental management and community consultation.

Mr Scully said the new section would link with the Yelgun to Chinderah freeway which opened in 2002.
