Peru suffers through dire snowfall as two die from cold

AT LEAST two are dead and 33,000 affected with Peru's government labelling more areas in a state of emergency following heavy snowfall and unusually cold weather.

BBC News reports that tens of thousands of animals froze to death over the past week.

President Ollanta Humala visited Apurimac, one of the hardest-hit areas, to supervise the use of emergency aid.

The state of emergency would be in place for 20 days, according to the BBC.
