Chips flying at Brunswick

The 45th Brunswick Heads Woodchopping carnival started yesterday.

Today's program includes standing block, underhand, single handed sawing and a threeman relay with underhand, standing block and tree elements.

The carnival will end on Saturday with the most exciting contests between winners through the carnival vying for the title of champion of champions.

Also on the program is the state of origin relay. The relay is a proven crowd pleaser with supporters from NSW and Queensland getting into the spirit of the traditional rivalry between the states.

At work in the commentary box will be veteran enthusiast and organiser Noel McGregor, who will this year be celebrating his 49th Christmas at Brunswick.

He and his wife Betty will also celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, no doubt among the many friends they have made over the years spent in the town.
