Beach wins top awards

LOCALS and visitors to the beaches at Brunswick Heads have always known what a great beach it is and now it is official!

Brunswick Head Beach has been awarded the Energy Australia Friendly Beach Award at the Keep Australia Beautiful Annual Clean Beach Challenge (Northern Rivers) awards announced in Byron Bay last Monday.

The Friendly Beach Award recognises the importance of visitor hospitality, safety and instructive and easily understood local information.

Judges looked for a beach that was truly visitor-friendly.

Broken Head Beach and The Pass at Byron Bay received highly commended awards in this category.

Seven Mile Beach at Lennox Head was named as the overall winner of the Northern Rivers Region Clean Beach Challenge.

It will now go into the final round of judging for the state Clean Beach Challenge to be announced on December 1.

The Keep Australia Beautiful Clean Beach Challenge, now in its fourth year, recognises communities that help protect and enhance their fragile coastal environments.
