APN audience grows to 1.2million

JUST RELEASED research data has shown APN Australian Regional Media's newspapers and digital platforms have grown their total audience to more than 1.2million.

The suite of products from Mackay in the north to Coffs Harbour in the south and west to the Surat Basin, has attracted thousands of new readers by developing its web, mobile and tablet platforms to brings exclusive local content to communities.

Editorial director Steve Zeppa said the growth in audience numbers reflected a commitment to bringing quality content to local people.

"We have made it our mission to be essential reading for members of the communities we serve, and these figures tell us we are becoming essential for a growing number of people each week," Mr Zeppa said.

"We have had the privilege of serving many of these communities for more than a century, sticking by them through thick and thin.

"Great new technology means people want different ways to access the news and other information about their communities in new ways.

"We have invested strongly in meeting this demand and the growth of our overall audience is proof that our efforts are succeeding."

Mr Zeppa said that while the means of delivery of news and features were becoming more diverse, there were key elements that remained the same.

"Connecting with local communities and talking to people about the issues that matter to them is a cornerstone of what we do," Mr Zeppa said.

"We are proud of our communities and will continue to work hard to be essential to the people who live in them."
