Another strong earthquake has hit New Zealand

A STRONG earthquake has hit the Hawke's Bay area in New Zealand.

The quake comes just a week after the fatal quake which shook Kaikoura and less than a day after a 6.9 magnitude quake hit Fukushima.

Geosciences Australia has reported the quake as a 6.1 magnitude quake, the US Geological Survey is calling it a 6.3 magnitude quake, and Geonet is calling it a 5.4 magnitude quake.

The quake struck at a depth of 55km at 10:33am AEST and estimates say it could be felt as far away as Christchurch to the South and Auckland to the North.
