I COULDN'T wait for this film to hit the big screen. It had all the elements to promise a children's film adults would love.
There is the genius of Pixar studios who uplifted my younger years with Finding Nemo and then entertained a maturer women and her nieces and nephews with Toy Story. And I loved the concept: an animated film showing the conflict between the emotions in our minds.
Sadly, I feel this film failed to deliver, particularly for the children's audience it should be geared towards. It was sad in parts and the funny bits were few and far between.
I know my seven-year-old daughter would have been the same as another cinema patron during the screening I went to who ran up an aisle looking for mum because it was a bit scary.
My 11-year-old son is the same age as Riley, the girl in the film.
I thought he would enjoy it.
He didn't.
The film does deliver on a thought-provoking and unique plot. And many less-sensitive people will enjoy it. But for me it explores themes too mature for a child and the animation makes it too young for an adult.
