Anasta into the swing of NSW PGA

SYDNEY Roosters' Braith Anasta has swapped the Sydney Football Stadium's field for the fairways of the Wollongong Golf Club in a bid to compete at the NSW PGA Championship.

Anasta will line-up alongside a high quality field of professionals - including Australian great Craig Parry - in his first foray into the world of competitive golf on November 3.

More accustomed to the hard-hitting tackles of the NRL, Anasta is keen to show he has the skills to last well into the weekend.

"I am really looking forward to this season of golf, even more so now that I will be competing in the NSW PGA Championship," said Anasta.

"The NSW PGA is a very prestigious tournament and so I am training hard at Wollongong Golf Club to ensure come November I am competitive against the professionals."

Competing as an amateur, Anasta said he had realistic expectations heading into the tournament.

"I would be honoured to win the tournament and add my name to the trophy but for the moment I am just concentrating on getting my game in the best shape possible," he said.

Anasta is sure to add a new dimension to the NSW PGA Championship where fans will be able to watch how the NRL star fares in his first professional golf tournament.

"We are very pleased to welcome Braith into the NSW PGA Championship as an amateur where I am sure both Braith and golf fans alike will enjoy the golfing action over the four days," general manager of the PGA Tour of Australasia Simon Butterly said.

"With prime positioning immediately before the Australian Open, this year's NSW PGA Championship is sure to be a success and we look forward to heading back to Wollongong Golf Club."

The NSW PGA Championship immediately precedes The Australian Open and Presidents Cup.
