Islamic State connection suspected in yesterday's killing

AN ISLAMIC State connection is suspected in the killing yesterday of a French policeman and his wife.

French media reported the officer was stabbed nine times in the abdomen outside his home in an outer Paris suburb before the killer barricaded himself inside the house.

Sometime in the next few hours he killed the woman - an Interior Ministry employee - before police stormed the home and killed him.

The couple's three-year-old son was found unharmed inside.

There were reports the man shouted "Allahu akbar" (God is greatest) as he stabbed the policeman, and that he discussed IS during negotiations with the police.

IS's media arm, Amaq News Agency, said the attacker was an "Islamic State fighter".
