Alyssa Azar will scale Mt Aconcagua this Christmas

JUST when you think Toowoomba mountaineer Alyssa Azar could not end the year on a higher note, the youngest Australian to climb Mt Everest will spend Christmas Day on Mt Aconcagua in South America.

Ms Azar flies out tomorrow for Santiago then on to Mendoza to climb the mountain.

Since reaching her goal of scaling Mt Everest in May this year, Ms Azar's next dream is to climb all "seven summits".

"I'm feeling confident. I've been before but we didn't get to summit. We got shut out by weather," she said.

"So it's unfinished business and I'm looking forward to having another go at it.

"It's been a big year and I've definitely been on a high with Everest so it seems like a good way to end the year.

"This will be my first climb since Everest."

While the exact make-up of the seven summits is unclear, different definitions used by different mountaineers stem from where one continent starts and another ends.

The seven summits generally includes Carstensz Pyramid, Indonesia, Vinson, Antarctica, Elbrus, Europe, Kilimanjaro, Africa, Denali, North America, Aconcagua, South America and Everest, Asia.

Mt Aconcagua will be Ms Azar's fourth summit climb.
