Adam Scott within striking distance at Masters

ENGLISHMAN Justin Rose and Spaniard Sergio Garcia share the lead after the third round of the Masters at Augusta.

Traditionally known as 'moving day', some of the biggest names in golf headed in the right direction on Saturday, with former champions Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott also putting themselves within striking distance.

Rose and Garcia lead at six under - one shot ahead of Rickie Fowler - with Spieth, Ryan Moore and Charley Hoffman at four under. Scott is another shot back, in sole seventh place after a second straight round of 69. Another former winner, Charl Schwartzel, is at two under and well in contention.

Earlier, Jason Day dominated Amen Corner but admits his comeback is likely to have come too late to have an effect on the leaderboard.

Taking advantage of pristine morning conditions while playing in the first group off, the 29-year-old bagged four consecutive birdies starting at the par-3 12th and signed for a three-under-par 69, climbing back to a three-over total.

"The first two days kind of put me out of it and today was a good round to get myself kind of back to good form,” said Day.

Amateur world No.1 Curtis Luck fell back in the race for low amateur honours, handing three shots back with a 75 to finish 54 holes at nine-over.

The Perth 20-year-old's only competition for the Masters silver medal is American amateur Stewart Hagestad, who is four over for the week and 12 holes into the round. Marc Leishman fell out of contention with an error-riddled 78.
