Action day on climate change planned for Byron Bay next week

A NATIONAL Day of Climate Action has been planned for Byron Bay next week.

Organised by the Australian Youth Climate Coalition and GetUp, the Australia-wide event is aimed at rallying support for the Federal Government to take action on climate change.

Lismore AYCC member Kudra Falla-Ricketts said the group was concerned Canberra was "not listening to the thousands of Australians looking to protect the country's future".

"Climate change is one of the world's greatest threats," the 16-year-old Trinity Catholic College student said.

"How can we protect our future when Canberra hasn't convinced us that a credible climate change policy exists? In fact, they want to repeal our carbon pricing system.

"We'd like anyone who cares about the environment and climate change to attend the day of action, which is happening in capital cities and other regional towns.

"This is a great opportunity for particularly young people who care about the environment to help save it. We need to learn how to make a difference."

The venue is Byron YAC Amphitheatre, 1 Gilmore Cres, on Sunday, November 17, from 4-10pm. Live music will feature Earth Guardians Australia and Silent Disco.
