Aboriginal artists meet Queen sixty years after grandfather

DESCENDANTS of one of Australia's most famous indigenous artists, Albert Namatjira, have met the Queen in London, almost 60 years after their grandfather met the monarch in Canberra.

Lenie and Kevin Namatjira, both well-known artists themselves, met Queen Elizabeth in Buckingham Palace and presented her with some of their own work on Wednesday.

The pair was in London to perform a play about Namatjira, and was given an audience with the Queen during the trip.

Namatjira first met Queen Elizabeth during her trip to Australia almost 60 years ago, presenting her with one of his own paintings, which is now believed to hang in a royal palace.
